external floppy drive won't read

I am trying to download software from my Apple Floppy drive, after inserting it, it makes noises, then after about 20 seconds, spits it out. What could be the problem? I have a MacBookPro 2013 and new Apple floppy. Thanks for any info.

There are no new Apple floppy drives anymore. Are you talking about the Apple USB SuperDrive? If so, what disc are you trying to read?
