external full but not???

Ok, I have searched and thought I found answers but they haven't worked.

I have emptied the trash, which I only had a couple of items, and that didn't do anything.

I have also repaired the disk and reset the pram to try to help. Nothing.

I have a 1TB drive and there is absolutely no way it is full.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.
