External GPUs for iMac.

Now that the Thunderbolt technology has been on macs for a few years are there any solutions for this yet? I know there are products like http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpresschassis.html that offer PCIe slots via Thunderbolt but would it be possible to hook up GPUs to them? Would Mac Pro GPUs be compatible driver wise?

It is possible, but it's expensive and slow. Thunderbolt just isn't fast enough for external graphics card, if you want better than 680MX performance.
Maybe the next thunderbolt update which will double the transfer speed will work better, but then you'll need a new iMac anyways..
