Hi, I'm planning of buying a new external hard drive. I already have 2 USB powered Western Digital hard drive. This time, I am thinking of getting a AC powered drive about 1TB-3TB. I was wondering is there any advantage of using AC powered hard drive? I don't mind the cords, as I'm going to use this new hard drive at home only.

Not really, unless you need to carry around TBs of data with you everywhere.

So basically, both offers same performance? Cause I had the impression the a/c external hard disks have better lifespan?

A.C. powered ones will be 3.5" hard drives (desktop ones), where as USB ones will be 2.5" hard drives (laptop ones). Lifespan, some may argue a desktop one will last longer, but I've had 2.5" hard drives for years without issues.

USB powered ones are far more convenient and are very portable. Go for one of those.
