Anyone using external hard disk is getting disconnected randomly when connected to MBA M1?

I tested with a USB C hub and it did not get disconnected. However transfer speed is noticeably slower. When connected directly, transfer is at max speed but will and can get disconnected while file transfer is ongoing.

Option Put Hard Disk to Sleep when possible is disabled.

Any ideas?

How about another M1 MBA? Have you tried the same drive on PC? Running Monterey?

I don’t have other M1 MBA to try. However the same drives are used with my workplace dell laptop and has no disconnection issue (direct connection). Also used with my Lenovo laptop at home via direct connection with no issue too.

Yes the M1 MBA is running Monterey and I just bought it 2 weeks ago.

I would suspect Monterey acting weird on external drives. I only have one WD Element drive connected for backup purpose through a generic USB-C hub and it works fine (I cannot connect the drive directly). I am using MacBook Pro (with Touch Bar) though.
