I have a new iMac with Mavericks installed. From day one, I was having the problem where the external drive (which has two partitions and is connected via USB 3.0) would unmount on its own when waking from sleep (or going to sleep).
Until today, the drive would mount again (also on its own). However, when I came to my computer this morning I saw the notifications that the partitions/drives weren't ejected properly. I turned off the drive and turned it on again, and it will not mount. I see no evidence that the drive is connected to my iMac. I've repaired permissions, reset SMC, restarted, etc. and still the drive is not visible.
I've done some searching and see that there are many threads which reference similar issues. However, many of them refer to Western Digital drives, and the one I have connected is a Hitachi.
Have any solutions or fixes been identified?
