So apparently my startup disk is running out of space... I'm sure its due to a lot of photos that I have on it, and some tv seasons, etc.
anyways- I have an external hard drive and I've been using time machine to back up my computer onto the hard drive but what I'd really like to do is use the hard drive to store photos, movies, etc.
can someone explain to me how to do this? I know that in using time machine doesn't exactly do this (I can't just delete photos I have now and then look at them via whats backed up on the external HD) - so how do I wipe the HD clean and use it to store specific items rather than "backing up" everything?

Thanks :)

use disk utility and partition the drive into 2 ... use one partition for Time Machine and the second for storage
