Hi All

Sorry if this is in the wrong section:

I have a Thunderbolt 6TB external hard drive that I used with a iMac 27' (I no longer have the iMac) and I only have a MacBook Air 11' 2011 which doesn't support Thunderbolt.

I am looking into buying a USB3 (supported with USB2) 2 bay external enclosure (link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-inch-Enclosure-External-Drive/dp/B009C5****#productDetails)

and wanted to know if I insert the drives into this enclosure will I lose my data (will I need to format it in order for it to work)

Its set as JBOD.

The 2011 MBA had Thunderbolt, I guess you have the 2010 MBA you just bought in 2011?

Also your link does not work.

And as for JBOD, if your current TB enclosure does use the HDDs as JBODs, then there is no need to reformat, as every enclosure can support JBOD. I for example have two of these, and while not exactly a high quality built, it works with two times 4 times 3 TB HDDs.
