External Hard Drive is Read Only???

I bought an external hard drive - 80GB samsung drive with phillips enclosure, plugged it in to my macbook pro but it won't let me copy anything and says it's read only. I can't seem to unlock it to make it write enabled. Can anyone help?

Iy probably came formatted NTFS for Windows. That is read only on a Mac. Use Disk Utility to reformat it HFS+.
