External hard drive issue

I have a Lacie external drive with two partitions on my G5 running 10.4.1

One has regular files, back ups, applications etc and the other contains my music collection.

Every so often the music partition just disappears although the other partition still appears on the desktop. The only thing I can do is eject the remaining partition and restart the drive.

If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening and any possible fixes I'd appreciate it.

I had this issue with my Lacie Big Drive. I had to take the drive apart and snug all connections. I'm not sure if this is what fixed it, butit worked. Also have you repaired permissions?
