My computer was running slow, and the memory was running around 98%, so I added a 2tb external drive & copied all my music files to it. The files appeared ok, so I deleted them from my main C: drive - successfully freeing almost 40% of C: drive space. The external memory was not similarly increased. However, most of my music & playlists are gone. I can and have "transfer purchases from iPod" successfully, and anything I specifically purchased through the iTunes is ok (digital download of movies, for example) But I can't "read back" my music, playlists, podcasts, etc.

So I guess my question is two-fold. Is there a way to transfer all items from the iPod to iTunes? And, is it possible my files are still somewhere in the external.

Unfortunately, I have emptied recycle bin, so that bell can't be un-rung.
