External hard drive management software ?

Hi

I'm looking for a software that automatically copies non-system files that have been unused for a long time on my external hard drive. That software should also be able to retrieve them easily when i need them, by simply asking to plug the external HD back.

Does what i describe exist ?

I have a macbook and need tons of HD space for my work, but most of these files are sleeping most of the time...

Any particular app generating and using the files? Often Pro Apps have built in "media managers".
