Due to the bad reviews & reports I've seen, I'm leery of getting a Time Capsule. I'm considering going the case/bare drive route, but if not, anybody have an opinion on these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938811&pf_rd_i=507846?

I'm a Mac newbie & it seems to be plug & play. Any options similar to this with firewire? I prefer it not have any proprietary software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a MyBook, works fine, but you can find larger ones for slightly less. I got a 2TB external USB drive for 119 at Wally-world a couple of weeks ago. Any USB drive should work. You may have to format it using Disk Utility, but that will get rid of any proprietary software.

There are Firewire MyBooks (at least there used to be) I have a client who has a couple of them. Also work fine....though one did die recently.

I've had great success with OWC drives:
