I have recently purchased a Maxtor One Touch III Mini edition 100 GB External Hard Drive.

Amazon said that my system requirements were:

"System Requirements - Pentium III, 500 MHz processor or higher, Windows 2000 Professional, XP Professional or Home Edition, Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later, 128MB RAM (256MB recommended) and Internet Connection for system updates"

i am running Mac OS X on an Intel Macbook.

Problem was that the hard drive software is not recognized by Mac and i cannot modify the hard drive until i run that software.

is there anything i can do?

Thank for your help!

Did you run disk utility and format the drive so that it can be recognized by the Mac? If it cannot be seen in disk utility that is a different problem and you may need to look at a more Mac compatible drive.

it is recognized in disk utility but how do i reformat the drive? do i partition it?

Yes, partition the drive and if you wish the drive to become bootable on an Intel based Mac, select Mac OS Extended, journaled and GUID partition table under options.

Cheers,
