external hard drive question: usb2/sata or PATA/firewire

Hello folks,

I have an external drive enclosure that is firewire and PATA. Now, the cost of an internal PATA drive is basically the same as an external SATA/USB2 drive because of all the promotions going around. My question is: doesn't the speed of usb2 connection offset the gains I'm getting from SATA vs PATA?

I'd take the FW over USB2 any day.
