Hi just a quick question regarding this external hard drive:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Passport-Es...e-Drive/dp/tech-data/B004445JK4/ref=de_a_smtd

It says it supports USB 3.0, will this work on the new mac air as USB 3.0 or only 2.0?

It's because I read a review online which had this in its last paragraph:

"In the AJA system tests, the 38.2MBps speed it obtained in the read portion pushed it near the top of the class of drives that we’ve tested. As previously mentioned, the My Passport Essential offers USB 3.0, which is unfortunately not supported by the Mac, but will work with the Mac’s USB 2.0 ports."

Cheers

The description applies to the old MBA which only has USB 2 ports. If your Mac has USB 3 then it will work in USB3 mode fine...If your Mac has USB2 it will still work. As described it is USB 2 compatible as are nearly all USB 3 peripherals:

"Dual USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 compatibility"
