I just ordered a 2.0 GHz Macbook. It will be my first mac. I am thinking about buying an external hard drive but I was wondering if I could also use it with my PC without reformatting. Is this Possible? I know I can use my iPod as an external hard drive without reformatting but is this different?

Yes it will be fine, Macs can read and write in Fat32 (Windows format). I believe when you plug in the drive for the first time on the Mac it will ask you to format it, just choose Fat32. If not use disc Utility :)

It Does Work

Hi there, ive done this and it does work; the only slight problem is you will see many useless windows files, such as .db files

The one thing to watch out for is that in order to write through OS X you'll need to use FAT32. That has a file size limit of 4 GB, so its no good for video editing.
