I'm planning on getting a MacBook,
I have all my media (music, movies, tvshows, photos,) on my Desktop,

i'd like to put all that on my MacBook but i don't think it will all fit,, i have tons of stuff, people said to buy and external harddrive.

Any advice on buying an External Hard Drive, i've never really heard or used these before,

Are they big? How much do they cost, can it hold like 300GB of videos, and stuff?? how does it connect to a laptop..

thanks for the help

Good idea.

high capacity External HDs are larger than your standard 3.5" desktop hard drive because they need to have the power, chipset, interfaces, fans, etc. in addition to the 3.5" desktop style hard drive. Some are pretty small, but the highest capacity ones will be larger.

You can buy ones of most any size. I have a 300GB external. Most external hard drives connect via FireWire 400 or USB 2.0, though some use things like eSATA.
