Alright, say I bought http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apiotek/EC0003D/ and plugged it in to a Macbook Pro.

Could I simply run an eSATA cable between that and an external hard-drive like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148239 for a proper and very fast connection?

Sure looks like it will work perfectly. But you never know until it is actually plugged in.

Now you have me looking into getting that adapter at least.

But why not buy an internal drive and an external enclosure?

I ask this because I know that some drives say that they offer 3Gbps but that is only AFTER you move a jumper on the drive to 'unlock' the feature (1.5Gbps before). If the Free Agent is the same as this it may be hard to 'unlock' it to get the full 3Gbps.

I was just using that drive as an example. I'm considering using an OWC Mercury Elite Pro-AL Quad Interface (USB, FW800/400, eSATA) enclosure with a 500 GB hard-drive.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a hard-drive to go inside the enclosure? I was thinking of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148136 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148151
