Hi all, I hope this is the correct thread to post into.

I've been using an Iomega 500gb external hard drive for Time Machine (one partition at 250gb) and SuperDuper! (the other 250gb). It is self powered via a wall plug and connects to my MacBook Pro (13") running 10.6.5.

I was backing up to it earlier with SuperDuper when I noticed it was no longer copying the files. I ejected the disk and plugged it back in. Selected Erase and Copy from the options, however this again did not work.

I restarted the computer and unplugged everything, but upon connecting the HD again it came up with the error message that it had not been ejected properly. It would now only show the single SuperDuper partition, with 0gb of data on it.

I opened up Disk Utility and it does not appear in there either.

Upon trying the eject the HD it says that it is currently being used by a application so cannot be ejected – even though nothing is open or running. I had to force eject it.

I've plugged it into an iMac we have in the house (running 10.5) and it mounts perfectly fine. Once I copied any important back up data across I formatted it back to a single volume, as Mac OS (Journaled). But when plugging back into my MBP it now comes up displayed as a folder on the desktop rather than an external HD. It is still not visible in Disk Utility.

It still works as it should on the iMac.

Apologies for the rather long and boring post, but I was hoping someone might know how to solve this. Thanks in advance for any help.

Justin
