Hi- I just acquired an external hard drive (Advance 80Gb) from a friend. It was formatted to a PC. He wanted me to save some of his files so I transferred them over to the HD of the PC.
I then reformatted the external hard drive on my Mac (OS X 10.4.11) to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Now I'm trying to transfer back some of his files (via a USB key) from the PC to the external hard drive on my Mac (his files are just some photos/movies, nothing PC specific). And I'm trying also to put my own personal files from my Mac HD to the external hard drive, but it can only handle really small files? And it freaks out even after trying to transfer 3 photos. What's to be done?? Thanks

what interface is it? If it's USB 1.1 then that's your problem right there. How old is it?

My computer's profile is:

Model Name: MacBook Pro 15"

Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP11.0055.B08
SMC Version: 1.2f10

MAC OS X Version 10.4.11

USB Bus:

Host Controller Location: Built In USB
Host Controller Driver: AppleUSBUHCI
PCI Device ID: 0x27c8
PCI Revision ID: 0x0002
PCI Vendor ID: 0x8086

I'm not too computer savvy, is my computer too aged for an external hard drive (which is 2-3 years old)?
