I have 3 external hard drives attached to my year-old iMac running leopard 10.5.8
One drive in particular, an Hitachi 1TB easy drive, periodically unmounts itself from the imac. To get it to re-mount I have to turn off the power to the drive by manually flipping the switch on the back, let it sit for at least 30 mins, and turn it back on. This happens at random, but the longest time is has stayed mounted so far is about 45 mins. I keep my computer on 24-7 and shut it down to rest every few weeks. I have tried rebooting, letting the hard drive and the computer rest, making sure it's connected to a powered USB port in the back of the computer and not a hub, etc. The other 2 drives, a seagate freeagent 500GB, and a newer hitachi 2TB drive have no problems. Unfortunately, I have my itunes folder on the Hitachi drive that keeps unmounting itself. I'm somewhat tech saavy, but don't understand coding and such. Can someone please tell me how to fix this? I'm at my wit's end!
