My external hard drive wont mount. is there anything i can do to try and get the data off, or even better, try to fix it?

It wont mount, and this is what i get when i try to verify/repair it in disk utility:

Verifying volume “JAYSON'S HD”
** /dev/disk2s5
** Phase 1 - Read FAT
Unable to read FAT (Input/output error)
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 non HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair

What can i do to fix this???

Disk warrior sees the drive, but says that the file format is not supported, so it wont do anything. Windows sees the drive but says that it is not formated and asks me if i want to format it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Could be the signs of a failing drive - I had a similar problem with my old external hard drive..

One of the problems that caused my failure was I never used to eject the drive from the desktop, and I didn't realise my drive was copying data when I turned it off and corrupted stuff. Also the fact that it fell off my desk didn't help its lifespan either.
