Hello, all. Hope you're having a fabulous Monday.

I am faced with a problem. I have a 13' MBP. I am planning to swap out my 750GB HDD for a 128GB SSD. As I like a fully functioning computer in all visible aspects, I would like to keep my optical drive intact, yet be able to use the 750GB HDD as an external hard drive for the HD movies and music that I own.

What I would like to know is whether this would be possible, or if the only way for me to use my hard drive would be to have it replace my optical drive. This is actually my first Mac, so I am unfamiliar with SSDs and the like, and I hope that one of you can be of assistance to me.

Thanks.

You can buy a USB enclosure for the 750GB drive and use it like you would any other external drive.

If you have a MBP, I would look at a FireWire 800 enclosure over a USB one. You'll get better speeds out of the drive with FW.

When you look into these enclosures, make sure you find a 2.5" firewire 800, as most of the 2.5" ones are bus powered and will provide you with better portability.

Did you see the Crucial M4 512gb go for $400 recently?
