Title pretty much says it all. I was wondering if this is how it is meant to be? Every time I restart my mac or boot it back up any connected external hard drives must be powered off, and then back on in order to show up. I've tried googling for fixes and I can't seem to find anything. Does anyone know anything about this?
My specs are 2017 5k iMac, running Mojave. No other problems with external hard drives just this.
Generally speaking...no. Drives will unmount upon powering down, but I would expect them to remount.
Having said that, if they are USB, there have been a bunch of USB 3 glitches over the years, mostly associated with chipset incompatibilities of certain external USB boards.
Are all the drives USB? Are they USB 2, or 3? Any other hints about hardware?
To check for any software conflicts or issues, you could try rebooting to Safe Mode to see if anything behaves differently.
