I am currently in the process of upgrading to an iMac for a video editing I recently landed. 24-in screen, 3.06 GH, the new Final cut studio, etc. The business is just starting up, and we're not doing anything too involved or complicated with the cutting right now.
It has yet to be decided weather or not we will be shooting HD or not, but I will at some point in the near future be editing HD footage I'm sure. In any event I am going to need some external space. When I was in college, everyone was into the 1TB G-Raid's, but it appears as if they have been discontinued. All I can find are these G-Raid minis, which I don't really trust too well for HD editing. A friend suggested I look into the Western Digital My Book Studio hard drives.
Any suggestions on reliable external hard drives for professional video editing aside from the 2 mentioned above? Ive gone through a few hard drives over the years and would really like to find something that will last me a while this time. I've also heard that if you say, buy a 2TB hard drive but never use more than 500GB, this can be bad for the hard drive. True or false?
