External Harddrive as a Dual Boot Startup Disk

Is there any way I can boot up my external harddrive as a startup disk along with my internal harddrive?

This would allow me to use both harddrives? I thought you could only use one by holding the option key.

You cannot boot from 2 drives at the same time. Holding option allows you to choose which drive you want to choose from.
