external harddrive broke

I have a wd 1 TB harddrive that i store movies on. I tried to transfer about 40gbs of movies to fill the hard drive to about 990gb. It stopped midway and now my computer no longer recognizes it. Any thoughts on what to do?

Disk utility > Repair Disk
