external harddrive not mounting

Do you know what is wrong if my external hard drive does not mount, and instead plays strange music from inside the case.

I have a Dynex USB 250 gb external HD.

Does Disk Utility recognise it? Was it formatted on a PC? What sort of music is it playing? Is it possible your drive has been abducted by aliens and a space creature has morphed into the shape of your drive as a disguise so it can relay secret cultural information back to the mothership in order to one day eventually take over the planet? If it's this last option, definitely reformat your drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with Disk Utility. Aliens suck.
