External HardDrive Question

Hi!

Thankyou for the awesome forumn, this is really a great community.

I'm soon to be the proud new father of a 20" Imac g5 with 2gigs of RAM from Crucial. Mostly going to be used for graphic design work with photoshop and illustrator, using pretty hefty files around 40-100 megs. In the long run will the computer stay faster if I work off an external harddrive, keeping the internal drive just for the OS and Apps? Or would the perfomance gains be minute because I dont have a lot of funds to toss around.

Any configuration suggestions would be great.

I believe the new 20" iMacs have 250GB of hard drive space. That's more than enough for your design work. Its faster to use the internal hd than an external hd even if its FW800. Just use the external hd for back up purposes and if you want, move seldom used files to the external.
