I'm looking to buy an external hard drive for my Macbook Pro. I'm not really sure where to start with the research or what type of hard drive to look for. I'm a student just wanting to back up my music, pictures, and school files so I don't need anything extremely fancy. Looking for something affordable - any tips on where to start looking or what to look for?

if you plan on using time machine any external hard drive will do. i have a western digital my book. i have had it for 3 years and it works great. best buy is actually having a good sale this week on them. i would get double what your internal memory is. do you plan on keeping the movies, music, and pictures on your internal drive?

Thanks for the response. I know that I have Time Machine on my macbook but I'm not really sure how to use it. Is that something that backs up your materials? As far as what I'm going to keep on my external hard drive, it's just going to be mostly school documents along with my music - no movies or anything huge like that.

If you have any help regarding Time Machine I'd appreciate it - I'm not sure how to go about actually backing up my things once I have an external.
