I took my new MacBook Pro, HV20, and FireLite 100GB external HD on a long project in the Far East. After crossing the Big Pond, I shot some footage around Central Hong Kong. The next day, I successfully imported it onto my external HD, but I noticed the hard disk made a weird ticking noise like the drive wasn't spinning properly. I stopped using it for the rest of the trip. Now, I'm sitting at home in Denver, and it's doing the same thing. Simple text files will open, but when I try to open a 200MB+ video file, it makes that ticking noise and makes the Finder crash.
Did something happen to it on the aircraft that caused the disk to fail?
Thanks.
