I just ordered 6-core, 16GB, 512GB, D500 nMP and need to get an external hard drive for editing in FCX. Can anyone recommend one that they used is happy with?

Thank you

I can guarantee that if you are trying to edit off the external disk it should be ThunderBolt. Even some basic iMovie projects over USB 2.0 are rough. You may be able to get away with USB 3.0 though. Sorry that I don't have a specific recommendation as I still am using a PowerMac with two internal drives for editing.

Yes, I know USB is not fast enough. I've been using FW800 all this time but the nMP doesn't come with FW800 that's why I am asking for help.

I have a 2011 iMac that has FW 800, TB, but no USB 3.0 (only 2.0). I currently use a Seagate HDD FW 800 for my iMovies. Will I see any improvement if I uses a FW 800 to TB adaptor to connect to my iMac?

I use a Drobo 5D with FCPX, or for when I need to be portable I use a buffalo ministation thunderbolt.
Both work great.

Would love a LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 though - but for that price I could pick up another MacBook! Lol

USB3 -is- fast enough.

An entirely different world than was USB2.

I just picked up a Seagate Backup Plus USB 3.0 for video and it works great. Only const about $150 for 4TB storage, it's pretty darn fast for a spinner. I have drives in my cMP that are slower.
