External HD for Time Machine

I feel like this topic comes up too often. But, with time short on Prime Day, what brand(s) is/are reliable for use with TM?

The reason I ask is because I currently have a WD My Passport for Mac that I have not been able to get to work for months. I have since read about many folks having issues with this drive. So, I just want a reference for a reliable brand. I do not care for portability. It is simply going to stay on my desk hooked up to my Mac Mini.
