There are some websites that take a little longer to load because something about that site make my external hard drive come on. This also happens with certain applications on my mac as well. What could be causing this? My hard drive is a Western Digital "my book" 320 gig usb 2.0

External HD kicking in??

That's a normal behaviour, I have that too, and with five to ten external drives it's a pain in the asymmetric photons.
What Mac OS X version do you have?

Not sure about the websites, but when you click on save or open file in an application, the computer spins up the external drives just incase you want to access them. I can imagine that that is quite annoying with ten externals.
