External HD + MBP + (Which hard drive?)

I have a 1TB external harddrive and want to use it to back up my MBP. Ideally, I'd be able to just sync everything once a night (or whenever I want).

Which free program/tool can I do this with that you recommend?

No, unless you want a bootable backup too.

SuperDuper and CCC make a bootable backup, TM is only a backup from which you can restore.
