When mounting a Seagate USB HD I'm having trouble copying a few but not all of the files. I get errors when I try to copy them.

I've had no problems accessing these files on Linux or Windows. Also when I mount the drive I'm given restricted access, only copying, no deleting or cutting. (This is my first OS X computer)

Thanks in advance

How is the disk formatted? OS X can mount some filesystems only in Read-Only mode (NTFS for instance). If you want a filesystem that is completely universal across all those three without installing any extra software then you're rather stuck with the FAT filesystem I'm afraid, it works OK and is pretty fast, but very prone to fragmentation and has no security at all.

The errors with copying files may be down to physical errors with the disk, or may be caused by invalid characters in filenames (unlikely as OS X tends to accept just about anything in a filename - much to my frequent annoyance), or may be caused by filenames that are too long for OS X.

I think you're onto something, the files have Spanish characters in them.
And the filesystem is NTFS, so that explains the access issues.

Thanks
