I have Mac OS X version 10.5.8. Today I connected a brand new 1 tera Hp external HD and tried to erase it at Disk Utility to change the format for Mac OS.

At the beginning the HD was recognised but after trying to erase it to the volume format: mac OS Extended (journaled) the following error occurred:

Volume Erase failed
The underlying task reported failure on exit.

After this avery time I try to plug the disk it says that the Disk is not readable!! So I can not use it, it has no information is 100% free and I don't care to erase everithyng.

The disk is new and works perfectly, what happened? Please Help!!

Thank You
Andres
