I know there are a ton of posts on this topic, but I couldn't find any with my specific problem.

I just set up a new Mac Mini Server (2011) and wanted to plug my 4TB WD MyBook media drive into it to act as a media server. However, when I do so, the light on the front of the drive lights up and blinks like it's going to start up, but the drive is never recognized by the mac. Doesn't appear in finder or disk utility. Also, the light on the MyBook never stabilizes to indicate the amount of space remaining.

I've tried plugging it back into my MBP 2010, and it works fine, so I don't think the drive is corrupted. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Does it show in Disk Utility? You may be experiencing an SMC error. Resetting the SMC almost always fixes mounting issues, especially those specific to the computer and not the drive.
