Hi, I really need to get an external HD to back up my work from my MacBook Pro. I will be using time machine to do this and I also plan on using it as a scratch disk for Photoshop.
The HD needs to have FW800 and needs to be portable, (so I can use it with my MBP) Have enough space for my time machine backup and for scratch space etc. I have a 160GB HD in my MBP.
I have been looking at the Lacie big little disk 320GB but I have a few questions:

1. How big should the partion be for a scratch disk (minimun) and will this leave enough room for time machine as well.
2. This HD is RAID 0 (two 5400rmp drives) will this mean the speed is more like that of a 7200rpm drive - i.e. will it be fast enough?
and finally...
3. What do you think of this HD. I am having trouble parting with that amount of money for a 320GB (portable) HD when I can get a 750GB (non portable) for the same price. Not sure If a really need a portable HD at all - would only be handy If I also had enough space for putting big files on to transfer to other computers... any other views on this HD please.
