I just picked up my new MacBook Pro 14” and was getting ready to migrate from my old laptop using my external LaCie HD when I realised that it has a Thunderport 2 port (which obviously doesn’t fit!)

I have ordered a Thunderport 2 to 3 adapter so I can do the migration in the next few days but I want to find a native port HD drive that will work with my new laptop rather than having to use a dongle.

Is there any particular brand/model of external HD I should be looking at and should it be USB 3 or USB 4?

Size wise I am probably looking at 1/2TB.

Appreciate any advice!

Really depends on what your use will be. There's some extremely fast Thunderbolt 3 drives right now but may not be worth the expense if all you do is back up to it now and again.

Just picked up a Samsung T7 today and it's crazy fast with my new 14" MBP. I also have a 1TB Sandisk Extreme Portable that I use exclusively for photography and that's great as well.

For about the same price, you can't go wrong with either option.

What TB2 to TB3 adapter did you buy? I am looking for one.
