I got this (http://www.simpletech.com/commercial/products/spu35320.php) external HD for xmas, wondering if it's decent or if I should return it, I can't find much on here about it. Wondering if I should return it, and pay a little more, to get this one (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other World Computing/MAU8F7250GB8/).

Mainly it will be used for Time Machine (I take up around 80 GB on my computer), and a little bit of storage. Being portable is nice, but by no means necessary. The same thing goes for Firewire 800.

Thanks all.

It should work fine.

It's compatible, I just don't know how high of quality it is. I've never really heard of this brand, while I've seen the OWC one suggested a few times.

The drive itself is likely a Western Digital, Seagate or Hitachi. The controller is part of the enclosure and is an unknown quantity. Unfortunately, there's really no way to tell how it'll perform.

Personally, I only buy Seagate drives. A little more expensive, but I've had horrible luck with WD drives. I also own 3 OWC Firewire enclosures and they have been running 24/7 for the last 2 to 4 years without any problems.
