I own a new 2011 Macbook Pro 15" 2.2ghz and this is the problem I have.
I own a WD Essential My Passport, and it just started to happen recently. It only happens when I start to transfer my movie collection to the external.
It's 1tb and I partitioned it 500gb for Time machine and 500 for personal storage. Time machine backs up fine (all 250gb) of whats there to backup on my hard drive, however when I try to transfer about ~50gb of movies to my personal partition, it disconnects after 40gb or so transferred over.
The strange part is, it won't allow me to add additional movies anymore after this and continues to disconnect and reconnect.
I don't think it's a connection issue as time machine backs up fine, and I can watch movies from the personal partition.
And I already upgraded the firmware, formatted, repartitioned, tried without partitions, made sure the connections were secure, and even tried the transfers with just the external hard drive as the only thing connected.
Any help or advice?
