I need an external USB 3 harddrive to be used as a Time Machine backup for a late-2012 Mac Mini.
I've read about "shingled" (SMR) type hard drives which apparently keep the price down but their performance suffers. My question is if this would be an issue when using it purely as a Time Machine backup drive?
I'm considering a 5TB Seagate Backup Plus Portable, but it's not quite clear if this is a conventional (CMR) or a shingled (SMR) drive.
Are there other USB bus-driven drives out there worth considering (2-5 TB)?
