Hi folks. I've been having trouble with an external HDD that I bought a few months ago and I was hoping for some help.
The drive is a 500GB Hitachi external HDD that connects via USB. I've used it before to backup my computer with Time Machine and then, it worked just fine. Now, however, when I plug in the HDD to my computer (Macbook Pro) it doesn't show up on my desktop. I've tried troubleshooting it by going to the Disk Utility, but it doesn't show up there either.
I would have thought that the HDD is broken, except it is recognized by my friend's Dell (Windows XP) just fine. In addition, I have tried my friend's external HDD (Western Digital 500GB MyBook) and it, too, doesn't show up on my desktop despite working with her computer just fine. It, also, doesn't show up on Disk Utility.
This would suggest that my USB is broken, or so I thought. However, I have tried both of the USBs on my MacBook Pro and neither seems to work. I can plug my iPod in just fine, so I know my USB isn't broken. It must be something else, but I just can't figure out what it could be. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? It is quite frustrating...
