External HDD is driving me crazy!!!

I just bought the Macally PHR-250cc from Newegg for my Macbook. I wanted to have the firewire capabilities. Unfortunately I cannot get it to be recognized at all with the firewire. I can get it to mount with usb, but nothing with firewire! I have gone to System Profiler and it says unknown device. I have hooked it up and hooked my video camera up and the camera worked, but still no go on the hard drive. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a pretty old thread, but I just found it Googling because I was having the same problem.

I also found an answer, so I thought I'd post it.

Turns out that I just didn't have the hard drive pushed hard enough into the pins. Just for kicks I removed the HD from the enclosure and hooked it up. Sure enough, mac reported "unknown device" -- so then I put the drive back in and pushed the drive firmly onto the pins, hooked it back up to the Mac and it mounted right up.
