external HDD partition question

Hi,

probably a stupid question and hopefully a quick answer / slap is all I need!

got an external 1TB drive and want to use it for both time machine and as a storage space (ideally half and half). I've formatted it as macos journaled but have come across at least 15 different ways that people say are the best ways to set it up for being partioned.

simple steps through this are probably needed!

Well, just make two partitions with Disk Utility. Sizes can be what you like and make both Mac OS Extended (Journaled) unless you need to use them with Windows as then FAT32 is better. Then open Time Machine and select other partition and voilà

Yeah keep it simple, just split it in half, the more you mess with it the more likely it'll break.
