I just connected an external hard drive and i checked the permissions and it's read-only. I'm not sure how to change it, it's full of movies and music and other important files so I don't want to format it, but it's currently formatted as NTFS because it used to be hooked up to my vista computer.

Any help is appreciated

I believe that Macs have problems reading NTFS formatted drives. You should double check that by doing a google search.

If so, your solution will be to offload the files to another drive and reformat it as FAT32.

Good luck.

the problem is that I have no where else to back up 600 gigs of stuff, so formatting is out of the question
