I am looking to replace my Dell 390 with an external HDD or a NAS. Reason for the HDD is so i could plug it into my iMac and have the files on a local store, and then have that plugged into my player device (WD Live TV) The Dell has 4TB worth of storage, what external HDD device would you suggest for my needs, it will be storing films and music mostly....

On the other hand I have been thinking of building a hackintosh.

Thinking of this gear to make my hackintosh:

CPU: here
Motherboard: here
RAM: here
HDD: I already have 4 WD 1TB drives.
Case: here or here - although not sure if this one would work.

--

Reason for the HDD over the NAS is because when i get my own place I am not sure if i'll be able to set something up on a network such as a NAS. If i can id prefer to go down the hackintosh route. But for the time being a external HDD may be worth a look

Since you already have drives, you can get something like this for short change
