What do you recommend I do?

I currently have a 500GB USB 2 external HDD which is pretty much full.
I need a new one to compensate for the growing number of PCs in my house. Should I just get another USB 2 HDD or get a normal HDD and put it in an enclosure? My PCs don't support firewire but my mac does but isn't firewire 800 faster? I think I should go with the enclosure because I can buy the HDD cheaply and use any method of connecting them and use faster speeds if the computer can handle it eg my mac and firewire 800.
Thanks

Firewire 800 is much faster than any USB connection. USB 2.0 gets the job done for me. I am still planning to buy some Firewire 800 drives for movie editing. I'm stuck with USB 2.0 right now.

I thinking for you that you should get another USB.
